Here’s my Lilypie ticker as of today…
The wording was tough: I wanted to make it clear that I have not been nursing the SAME child for 6 years, 6 months, 2 weeks and 2 days, while still taking full credit for every second of that time.
I have been thinking about nummies a lot lately as we get ready for Gavriel Zev’s big 4-year birthday next month (the day after Yom Kippur).
I would be so, so happy to be able to continue nursing into his fifth year. But then, as with Naomi Rivka, it’s all over. That particular milestone still lurks over a year away.
For Gavriel Zev, nummy time is an opportunity to think about his day or just bliss out – whatever he prefers. He stops sometimes to ask me questions or talk about stuff, but mostly, I think he just curls up and assumes I know what he’s thinking.
I don’t have any illusions about prolonging their babyhood. But there is something amazing about continuing to nurse, about sharing my body and personal space with a child old enough to be exquisitely aware that it is a VERY special intimacy.
