(Hint: I wouldn’t be posting this if it still worked as the former. I know I can be hard on electronics, but in this case, I have done nothing wrong and so I’m MAD – and I will get revenge, or at least, a working phone… soon. Now that I have one, I’m completely hooked!)


ZANY BUT HAPPY POSTSCRIPT: Mysteriously, it's working now. Huh? Maybe the problem is the charger!

    Whatever you do, DON'T get a Samsung. I don't know why it took us so long. After FOUR failed Samsung phones, we will never buy Samsung again.

    I love my iPhone!

    @SL - see my happy postscript. Two of my kids are pressuring me to get an iphone, but nope, I hate apple. :-(

    And we have had too many dead ipods (3 or 4?) for me to take them seriously, in any event.

    It really frustrates me when technology doesn't cooperate. I'm glad it's working again but the mystery of it all does not please me.

What do we tell our kids about Chabad and “Yechi”?

If I start by saying I really like Chabad, and adore the late Lubavitcher Rebbe, z"l, well... maybe you already know where I'm headed. Naomi Rivka has been asking lately what I think about Chabad.  She asks, in part, because she already knows how I feel.  She already knows I’m bothered, though to her, it’s mostly about “liking” and “not liking.”  I wish things were that simple. Our little neighbourhood in Israel has a significant Chabad presence, and Chabad conducts fairly significant outreach within the community.  Which sounds nice until you realize that this is a religious neighbourhood, closed on Shabbos, where some huge percentage of people are shomer mitzvos.  Sure, it’s mostly religious Zionist, and there are a range of observances, for sure, but we’re pretty much all religious here in some way or another.
